SOCIAL MEDIA 101

In the age of social media, Instagram is a crucial marketing tool for large and small businesses alike. Here are a few pointers to help optimize your online presence.

CREATING YOUR ACCOUNT

  • Create a simple username. If you are a chain, include your location in your username for location-specific accounts.

CREATING A BUSINESS PROFILE

  • Click the      button and choose "Switch to Business Profile" to set up your business account.

  • Create a Bio that stands out and best pertains to your place of business.

  • Include Hashtags (#hashtag) and User Handles (@UserHandle) in your bio.

  • Include your company's website.

  • Add your address, email, and phone number.

POSTING 101

RECOMMENDED POSTING TIMES:  9am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm

  • When starting out, we recommend posting at these times as they are generally when viewer traffic is at its peak.

INSIGHTS

  • Once you reach 100 followers you will be able to view your "Insights", which provides visitor traffic data. This will allow you to determine the best time for your Instagram page specifically.

  • Only 30 #hashtags are allowed per post so choose wisely and ones pertaining to the picture itself.

TAGGING @

  • Make sure you always credit an artist/company if you repost one of their pictures by using the @ symbol followed by their Instagram username to tag them in the picture and/or in the caption.

REPOSTING

  • Reposting content from other Instagram accounts is a great way to engage with customers and the online community at large.

  • Always remember to @tag the original poster!

REPOST APP

  • Download "Repost for Instagram" from your smartphone's app store.

  • The repost app allows you to keep the original caption. However, adding your own spin on the post will help your traction.

WHAT TO REPOST

  • Images pertaining to your business posted by satisfied customers

  • Looks by VFX artists that use products available in your store.

  • Any fun, cool or interesting content relevant to the theme of your business. Support and positivity go a long way!

INSTAGRAM STORIES

  • Stories are temporary photos or videos that are grouped together in a slideshow gallery format. Once posted, your story will appear at the top of your followers' feeds, making it an ideal platform for marketing campaigns and online sales. You can also utilize Instagram stories to bring your audience into the day to day life of your business.

  • When creating a story, be sure to explore the add-on icons on the top right. Use # (Hashtags), @(Tagging), GIFS, and text to bring your stories to life and to extend your reach.

  • If you are saving stories make sure you save them before you insert #(Hashtags) and @(Tags) as they will not work if re uploaded after saving.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • While stories are designed to only be available 24 hours after posting, Instagram as added a feature called "Highlights" that will anchor stories of your choosing to your profile page.

  • Currently only 90% of profiles have highlights. If your account is one without Highlights continue to stay active on your Instagram story and save all of your stories for future use.

  • Section your highlights by an appropriate category, i.e. Top Products, Women, Kids, Men, SFX, etc.
